Inclusive & Accessible Family Photography in Melbourne

A safe, respectful space for mothers and families to be seen— with dignity, care, and intention.

Rochelle Swift Photography is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible experience for families across Melbourne. From maternity and newborn photography to family sessions, every family is welcomed with respect, flexibility and thoughtful care.

At Rochelle Swift Photography, the work and community partnerships are grounded in respect, safety, dignity, and accessibility for every person I photograph.

I commit to practices that uphold inclusion and wellbeing for all families — particularly mothers and children — regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, family structure, or economic circumstance.

This commitment guides how I engage with individuals, families, community partners, and agencies such as early learning centres, local government services, and community organisations.

This commitment shapes every family, newborn and maternity photography session I photograph across Melbourne.

The Inclusive Photography Pledge

Photography can be deeply meaningful —
it preserves connection, identity, and presence.

I believe that every family should have access to respectful, safe, and inclusive portrait experiences that reflect their lived reality and lived dignity.

This ethical framework supports:
• equitable access
• community wellbeing
• respectful representation
• partnership with community agencies

Statement of Ethics

The Purpose

Inclusion means ensuring that:
• People feel genuinely welcomed and respected.
• Barriers to participation — physical, emotional, cultural or financial — are acknowledged and respectfully considered.
• Everyone is treated with equal dignity and without bias.
• Differences in identity, ability, expression, and family structure are recognised and affirmed.

This is not about trends or optics — it is a standard of practice.

What Inclusion Means to RSP

Core Principles

Dignity & Respect

I respect every individual’s identity and presence without judgment or performance expectations.

Safety First, Always

Children and families are photographed only in ways that prioritise physical and emotional wellbeing.

Truthful Representation

I reflect people authentically. Editing enhances presence, not erases identity.

Accessibility & Adaptation

I consider individual needs, communicate clearly, and adapt where possible to support comfort and participation.

Consent & Stewardship

Clients retain agency over how their images are used. Permission is sought explicitly before sharing publicly.

How These Commitments Shape My Photography

To ensure our principles are lived in practice, we:

a) Communicate clearly and respectfully
Before every session we provide accessible pre-session information and invite questions about needs or concerns.

b) Prioritise physical and emotional safety
All newborn and child poses are comfort-led and parent-supported; unsafe or extreme posing is not part of our practice.

c) Support diverse needs
We adapt sessions for sensory, mobility, and developmental needs wherever possible, and welcome support people.

d) Respect privacy and consent
Images are never shared online or in promotional material without documented consent.

e) Provide equitable service options
Through initiatives such as Mini Sessions, Payment Plans and the Community Recognition Program, we aim to increase accessibility for families who may not otherwise prioritise portrait photography.
You are not required to change yourself to belong here.

I am committed to ongoing learning and reflection. I review my practices regularly in light of community needs and feedback, and seek professional guidance to ensure ethical standards evolve with best practice.

Community Relevance

My work contributes to community wellbeing by:

• Preserving family connection
• Strengthening positive identity for mothers and children
• Offering accessible photographic experiences through structured community initiatives
• Partnering with local services (e.g. Child Care Services, Schools and Community Organisations) to support families during key life seasons

I believe inclusive family photography strengthens communities by ensuring every family feels welcomed and represented. This alignment supports ethical framework in inclusion, healthy community development, and meaningful representation.
